U.S. Payment: Once you have contacted A Going Concern to ensure space is available, you send a check, payable to A Going Concern, to A Going Concern, PO Box 661, Cary, N.C. 27512. We do not accept credit cards. International Payment: Residents of countries other than the U.S. also need to contact A Going Concern by e-mail or telephone (919-380-1495) to ensure space is available. (If phoning, please be aware of time zone differences and call when it is East Coast U.S. daytime -- North Carolina is in the same time zone as New York City, Washington and Miami.) Then, send a bank check in U.S. denominated funds ONLY to the above address.
Deadlines: The deadline date is the final date by which Kay determines that enough people have signed up to make the trip (often she knows early on, for those trips that attract many people). We operate on a 'first come, first served' basis. Consequently, if you call to state your interest but delay in sending the check, someone who calls after you do -- but who mails the check -- gets the seat. You are certainly welcome to wait to mail your check, but it does risk your being able to go. We have to operate this way because people have at times expressed interest but then didn't follow through with a check -- and in the meantime, others can be turned away because the trip (on paper, at least) looks full. To be fair to those who really intend to go (and to Kay!), what really counts is receipt of a check.
Receipts and refunds: Your cancelled check is your receipt. If a trip is cancelled by A Going Concern, refunds will be made promptly. A Going Concern does not accept deposits on domestic trips nor issue invoices. Payment in full is expected by check or cash (not by credit card) at the time of registration. All registrations are considered tentative until payment is received. All prices are based on tariffs and, in the case of international trips, also on exchange rates current at the time of quotation and may be altered without notice.
If a client cancels prior to the final deadline for a given trip, a full refund will be issued. After the deadline, however, commitments required by suppliers of transportation, food, lodging and events preclude any refund from A Going Concern, for any reason whatsoever, whether a client cancels a trip or misses the departure.
International trips are totally non-refundable from the initial payment onward. Trip insurance is firmly recommended. Obtain a policy which best suits your needs. You may do a web search to find insurers, consult with AAA or another travel agency, or ask Kay Miller for a list of companies (she does not endorse these companies; she is merely providing a service in passing along their names).
If a client has to cancel a trip after the deadline, that client is welcome to find someone else to go instead. In such case, A Going Concern must be notified of the change of participant but is not involved in the monetary transaction between the two parties.
Trip cancellation and medical insurance are available at your option for every trip; let Kay know if you need details. You are also welcome to search the web or other sources to locate providers of such insurance.
Calling after the deadline: If we have space, we are happy to have you join us. Of course, if everyone puts off signing up, the trip is cancelled due to seeming lack of interest. So promptness is encouraged.
While on the motorcoach, consumption of alcohol, intoxication and smoking are not allowed. Any passengers not adhering to this policy will be required to leave the tour at their own expense. Anyone, sober or not, who is disruptive to the trip will also be required to leave at their own expense.
Medical Circumstances:As with most travel, A Going Concern's trips generally involve substantial walking, and coach trips involve multiple instances for getting on and off the bus. Any prospective traveler who has a disability requiring special attention must report that to A Going Concern at the time the reservation is made. A Going Concern will make reasonable attempts to accommodate the special needs, but it is not responsible in the event it is unable to do so, nor is it responsible for any denial of services by carriers, hotels, restaurants, attractions or other independent suppliers. We regret we cannot provide individual assistance to a tour member for walking, dining, getting on and off motorcoaches, vans or other transportation, or other personal needs. Any travelers who need such assistance must be accompanied by a companion who is capable of, and totally responsible for, providing such assistance. Cost of the companion will be borne by the disabled client and/or companion, not by A Going Concern.
Our trips are not rigorous for a person with good stamina, nonetheless they can be physically demanding and we may travel to areas where medical establishments are not immediately available. Neither A Going Concern nor Kay Miller assumes any liability whatsoever regarding the provisions of medical care. Persons who rely on medical equipment (auxiliary oxygen, walkers, wheelchairs, dialysis equipment), have other physical limitations and/or have special medication requirements or allergies must make them known to A Going Concern at the time of registration. The trip leader has the right to disqualify any member from the group at any time if considered medically necessary, or to avoid endangering the group or if the participant is physically or emotionally unfit for the rigors of the trip. Refunds are not given under such circumstances. If anyone arrives at the departure point without indicating their medical circumstances, they will be immediately barred from the trip with no refund possible.
Anyone whose overall health requires monitoring, daily treatment or personal attention, may be more comfortable traveling privately with family or friends, or traveling with companies that specialize in programs for those requiring medical assistance and monitoring.
In regard to a coach trip, passengers are limited to 45 pounds total baggage per person. This includes all forms of cargo including, but not limited to: carry-ons; baggage; wheelchairs, motorized wheelchairs, carts and scooters; air tanks; walkers or any other items. The driver will put suitcases under the coach; placement of all other items is the responsibility of the passenger for the duration of the trip. You should be able to lift your possessions if you expect others to do so. No responsibility is accepted for loss of or damage to baggage or any person’s belongings.
In regard to air travel, baggage regulations are set out by the individual airlines.
A Going Concern expects to run the itinerary as outlined. At times,a change in some element of the trip may be necessary due to severe weather, acts of God, strikes or other impediments out of the control of A Going Concern. In such cases, every effort will be made to reschedule the stop, if possible, or to substitute a similar attraction or lodging during that trip. No refunds will be made for such substitutions, or for inability to provide elements of the tour.
Force majeure: Neither A Going Concern nor Kay Miller accepts any responsibility for any loss, inconvenience, or damage caused by war, threat of war, riot or civil strife, terrorist activity, strikes, industrial disputes, natural disasters, fires, sickness, weather conditions, airport regulations, temporary, technical, mechanical or electrical breakdown of transport or any facilities contained within advertised accommodation, explosion of any nuclear plant or part thereof, or radioactivity/contamination from such plant or events beyond reasonable control of A Going Concern or Kay Miller.
The carriers, hotels and other suppliers providing tour services are independent contractors and are not agents, employees, servants of, or joint venturers with, A Going Concern.
The tour participant agrees that neither A Going Concern nor its affiliates shall be liable for any damage, loss, (including personal injury, death, and property loss) or expense occasioned by any act or omission of any supplier providing tour services, or of any insurer or insurance administrator.
Gratuities: Group collections for bus driver and/or escort are discouraged. A Going Concern will cover those tips.
